I adore these photos by Thomas Allen. Using pins, tape, wire, and dramatic lighting (no digital manipulation here), Allen creates little dioramas out of pulp fiction book covers. They almost feel like little movie stills. Allen says he was inspired by childhood memories of pop-up books and View-Masters. View more of his work here and here.

Chris Jordon combines photography with statistics. As a result, abstract numbers are turned into a concrete illustration. Many of his photographs relate to waste and consumerism. This cell phone example is particularly illuminating. The final picture shows 426,000 phones. That's how many phones are retired in the United States every single day. The actual piece is five feet tall and more than eight feet wide.

In his "Summerland" series of photographs, Benjamin Donaldson's subjects have been hypnotized to believe they are in the most beautiful landscape imaginable. Worth a look.
